The swelling and stiffness may be due to arthritis. I recommend you be evaluated by a foot and ankle specialist (podiatrist) for diagnosis, and treatment options,
Ankle swelling and stiffness can be associated with arthritis. This is usually consistent with osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis. Pain with activity, stiffness with activity and swelling are not uncommon. There are other conditions such as capsulitis tendinitis that can cause similar symptoms.
