Some people can be naturally sensitive to light. Avoiding bright lights, wearing sunglasses or specialty lens tints may can help alleviate the effects of sensitivity to light. However, sensitivity to light can be caused by many different medical conditions. Many of these conditions can be detrimental to the health the eye and the body. Therefore, if you are sensitive to the light, it is recommended to see an eye doctor to rule out any medical conditions.
Pain in the eyes from light has to be differentiated from photophobia which is significant light sensitivity without pain. Photophobia can be treated with dark lenses and other sun protective head gear - hats, caps. Pain associated with lights should be evaluated and possibly treated by an eye care specialist. This pain can be caused by a traumatic eye injury or in someone with an inflammatory condition / disease. Recommend an eye examination with an ophthalmologist who can diagnose, treat and diagnose any systemic as well as eye inflammation.
You should be seen. Light sensitivity can be sign of inflammation in the eye, and should be checked out. It could lead to significant complications if left unchecked.
