Hello. Sorry to hear of your upper back pain. The issue is that upper back pain can be due to many diverse issues. It is unclear what the source of the pain is without a dedicated physical examination being performed. The best thing for you is to have your primary care physician refer you to a back specialist like an anesthesiology pain doctor or a physical medicine and rehab doctor. They can assess you and determine whether or not you need imaging (X-Rays; CT scan; MRI) of the area in question. Without an examination, it is difficult if not impossible to determine the cause; and without a cause, there can be no treatment applied. Good luck!

First, finding the cause to evaluate with a medical doctor those things in the area to cause upper back pain such as heart and lungs or pain referred from the abdomen. Then, musculoskeletal massage, acupuncture, and exercise may be of great benefit.
Upper back pain can be helped with stretches and some strengthening exercises. Please see a chiropractor to help correct the problem.
Often, upper back pain is from sitting, computer work, studying, etc. In fact, we call upper back pain in these situations "study back" and it's cause by poor posture sitting at a computer too long. Try getting up every 30 minutes and walking around, stretching, and focusing on things far away. That may help. To fix it, visit a qualified chiropractor and get on a regular schedule of adjustments to make the corrective action and keep you straight.
There are many things that can be done about your upper back pain, first and foremost, be mindful of your posture. You want to make sure that you are not looking down for a long period of time as that can affect you upper back and your neck as well. Stretching is another thing that can help with your pain, this will allow the muscles and ligaments to elongate. Chiropractic adjustments can also help with your pain as adjustments increase range of motion and free up the pinched nerve which allows your nervous system to reset.
For me...upper trap pain stemmed from long-term shallow breathing. So if you're a chest breather taking time to decompress...meditate, big buddha belly breaths etc would be a solid start.
Hello

That can best be determined after a proper evaluation with a chiropractic physician.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing upper back pain. What is effective in the treatment of upper back pain depends on what the cause is. One of the most common causes I see in my practice is poor posture. If poor posture is the cause a few things that can be helpful include Chiropractic adjustments which improve joint movement and alignment and reset postural muscles. Stabilization exercises and stretches can also be helpful. Another thing that I recommend to my patient's is increased awareness of their posture and paying attention to how their body feels when they have poor posture and when they have good posture.
