Most fatty liver is the result of obesity combined with metabolic problems like diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension. Excess fat gets deposited in the liver, causing inflammation and this can damage the liver over time. By far the best treatment is to lose weight. It is also important to control diabetes and the other metabolic disorders. There is no known medical treatment specifically for fatty liver, but many drugs are being studied in trials right now.
