If you are on birth control, have been traveling with prolonged periods of inactivity and your calves look red or swollen and feel hot.
Anytime you have pain, it is an indication that something is wrong. There are a lot of reasons for pain in your calf, so you should get it checked by a health care practitioner.
You should be concerned about the origin of the pain. Was there an injury or excessive workout? That would relate more to the muscle. Did the pain in the calf come on slowly or after prolonged bed rest with swelling, redness, and tenderness to squeeze? There may be a blood clot. At your age, I would assume it is more likely just a strain and it should resolve with ice and stretching over the next 4 weeks. if not, consult a physician to get it properly diagnosed.
Good question. It could be an indication of deep vein thrombosis. I recommend you consult with your medical doctor or medical professional asap.
There could be other causes for your calf pain. But a deep vein thrombosis is a life threatening condition so get that check immediately.
If it turns out not to be a problem write back and I can recommend other possibilities and solutions. But please get yourself checked out first.

Yes you should be concerned about calf pain that is constant or intermittent. Calf pain can be anything from a simple muscle strain, or electrolyte imbalance to a more serious spinal condition or blood vessel related issue. Calf pain should be promptly evaluated by a well educated chiropractor or medical doctor.
You should be concerned now because you risk tearing the muscle or the achilles. Start stretching and foam rolling the calf as soon as possible.
The biggest red flag with calf pain is if it becomes red, hot, swollen, and tender to touch. This can be a sign of a blood clot and would be a medical emergency.
All pain should be addressed as soon as possible because when pain is present, dysfunction has been present for much longer. I recommend going to a Chiropractor for treatment of dysfunction and pain in the muscles and joints of the body.
You should be concerned about calf pain if you notice swelling, redness or darker colors, the area feels hot to touch, you can feel a strong heartbeat in your calf. These are signs of vein issues and need to be evaluated by a medical doctor to determine the severity, as they can lead to dangerous blood clots. Just tension soreness that remains after a few days after a workout, could mean you have a pelvis or lower back misalignment, that a chiropractor can evaluate and treat. Either way, it is best to get checked out.
