Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Specialist Questions NICU

My baby has been in the NICU for the last month. Will this cause any issues in his development?

My baby developed some breathing distress at birth and was admitted in the NICU. It has now been a month. Do you think this is likely to cause any issues in his development?

Your babys development depends on gestational age at birth and development of any complications. Discuss this issue with your neonatologist Michael L Spear, MD, MSEdl Faculty Advisor, Honor Board Professor of Pediatrics Drexel University College of Medicine
Yes. It is adivsable for NICU graduates to be followed for their growth and development in teh NICU follow-up clinic. many babies start developmental therapy such as physical therapy, speeach therapy and occupational therapy while in the NICU, and continue after discharge with Early Intervention Program.
