Can osteoporosis occur in children?

I am a 48 year old female. I want to know can osteoporosis occur in children?

Yes it can. Lack of proper intake of calcium or vitamin D can cause osteoporosis in children. There may be hereditary or hormonal factors that also play a role. If osteoporosis is suspected, you should consult a pediatric endocrinologist for a proper evaluation.
No, fortunately, osteoporosis does not occur in the children. Some children can have hereditary condition called osteogenesis imperfecta that can cause brittle bone.

Not in a normal child with no real medical problems. In certain conditions such as a congenital metabolic disorder it can occur. In severe Vitamin C or D deficiency it is possible, but that is rare in the United States.
