Periodontist Questions Bleeding Gums

What is the course of treatment for bleeding and swelling gums?

Several times, I have been experiencing some swelling and bleeding in my gums. I read online that the best way to do treat this is to have good dental hygiene, but I already practice this! (Brush my teeth two times a day and flossing in the morning) Is there anything else that I should do?

Yes, disease producing bacteria hide at the bottom of the pocket and unfortunately your toothbrush or dental floss cant reach it. Your dentist should perform a dental procedure known as scaling and root planning that is nothing more than a deep cleaning to remove bacteria located at the bottom of the pocket. That procedure should significantly reduce inflammation and bleeding, also make sure you continue good toothbrushing habits Isabel C. I would recommend you see your dentist, dental hygienist or periodontist to evaluate your brushing technique. It’s great you’re brushing twice a day and flossing daily but the proper technique is important as well. Also brushing and flossing only penetrate underneath the gum a small area while there is much larger areas deeper than that that the bacteria can hide and cause bleeding of the gums.
The best thing is to go for an evaluations at a periodontist
See a periodontist right away.
If you are not having your teeth cleaned professionally, then that is the first thing to do. There are many crevices around the teeth that you cannot reach even with good brushing and flossing. The dentist or dental hygienist can also tell you if it looks like there is something more serious going on than just gingivitis.
If your gums are bleeding and your oral hygiene is meticulous, you may have periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is a condition where there is bone loss and it cannot be cured with brushing and flossing. It is important to have an exam with a periodontist to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Seeing a Periodontist to diagnose your problem and treat your problem.
You gums should not bleed. Ask your dentist for a referral to a periodontist for an expert evaluation of your gum health.
Seek professional consult with a periodontist to rule out gum disease. Some forms of gum disease require more than just good dental hygiene.
You should see a dentist, preferably a periodontist.
You should have a thorough clinical evaluation including periodontal probing and x-rays.
It sounds like you have at least gingivitis and you may have periodontitis which means bone loss. You may need scaling and root planing which is like a deep cleaning. You may need more extensive treatment but you certainly need to be evaluated by a periodontist.

Thank you,
Since you have bleeding and brushing and flossing has not improved the situation, you should see a periodontist. Chronic bleeding gums can be the first sign of periodontitis. Periodontitis is usually painless, but if left untreated, can cause a person to lose their teeth. Recent medical studies have shown a link between periodontal disease and heart disease and other medical diseases.
You need to see your periodontist who specializes in these problems. It may be caused by many things: it can be localized, such as tartar under your gums, or generalized, such as a reaction to a drug you are taking. Get professional evaluation and advice.
You should see a periodontist for a proper diagnosis. There are many kinds of gum disease.
Hello,
The best answer to your questions would require a full comprehensive exam of your teeth, as well as a physical to make sure that there are no other systemic causes for your bleeding gums. In addition, full mouth radiographs (x-rays) and possibly a CT scan would better our ability to help you and correctly diagnose the issues.
I suggest that you see a periodontist for the comprehensive exam. I would be happy to help. Thanks for your question. Dr. Steve.
You should seek out a periodontist for a consultation. If you have good homecare and floss on a regular basis, but still have bleeding and swollen gums, you may have a more aggressive form of periodontitis. This requires interventional therapy likely with systemic antimicrobial therapy. Most dentists say they can treat gum disease,m but I would highly recommend to seek an expert in this case here.
