Yes, acupuncture helps spinal stenosis by increasing the healing energy to the local area; the swollen and narrow spine space has a chance to heal and recover, so it will not press on the nerve that causes the pain.

Yes. Many people come with spinal stenosis and even after surgery. It still helps to relieve pain and help circulation.
Hello. Acupuncture can help people who are suffering from symptoms that they are experiencing with spinal stenosis.
Acupuncture can relieve some of the discomfort but it will not change or reverse the condition. Activities of Daily Living can be improved and general reduction in pain severity can be experienced.

Spinal stenosis is a physical narrowing of the disc spaces to pinch the nerves. Acupuncture & herbal medicine cannot physically reverse this, however, it has been found to increase the quality of life and improve the symptoms associated with it. Chronic conditions will always take longer to treat, but usually major symptoms should be alleviated by the 5th to 8th visit.

Thank you for your question,
Since it is uncertain to me how you arrived at a diagnosis of spinal stenosis or what your physical complaints are it’s difficult to offer any insight as to whether acupuncture will be helpful for you. That said, often people equate spinal stenosis with back pain. Acupuncture in general can help with back pain irrespective of what’s causing it.
Be well,
Dr. B

It depends on what caused the spinal stenosis. If it was caused by a broken bone, acupuncture cannot help.
There is no guarantee with any type of medicine. A lot of factors are at play. Such as previous medical history of falls, MVA's etc, extent of your condition, other co morbid conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and so on. Have you sought treatment for your stenosis in the past? If so, what type and for how long? What is your activity level like? Do you sit in a chair/couch that supports your spine properly? Proper footwear is essential in its support of the spine. How old is your mattress and is it supportive? All of these things can effect the efficiency of treatment outcomes.
But in my own personal experience, I have had good results with patients. But again, it depends upon other factors, such as frequency of visits, how many treatments you get before making an accurate assessment of how you do overall with acupuncture. Making adjustments where needed on proper footwear, swapping out your mattress if it is too old or not supportive, postural changes, exercise, and so on. Good luck!!!!

Along with PT and corrective exercise, acupuncture can help relieve the tension from the spine by loosening tight muscles in the back around the site of the stenosis, allowing the nerve fibers to unwind and not be compressed under tight tissues. If you are also doing physical rehab, acupuncture can help with tissue and muscle recovery and pain relief, ensuring you get the most out of your PT/chiro regimen.
Hello. I have treated back and neck pain well for over 7 years, having worked on over a thousand back pain cases. Spinal stenosis can improve with acupuncture, the prognosis depending on the cause of the stenosis. Sometimes the spinal canal is naturally narrower in a person, sometimes it is due to a disc, sometimes arthritis, or growths, enlarged ligaments or tumors. If you do not have results within a handful of acupuncture sessions, I would firmly recommend seeing an acupuncturist who also uses a special type of injection called point injection therapy, as this can do more for arthritic issues even. Do leave surgery as a very last option.
Yes, acupuncture can help with relieving pain by directly affecting pain signaling in the area. It also can help you to relax, which reduces other symptoms such as depression and anxiety. Always find a licensed, experienced acupuncturist to be part of your spinal stenosis therapies.
Pain can be greatly reduced, however, when combined with a minor surgery to clean the out the calcium build-up, it's the best of both worlds. Integrated medicine works!!!
Yes, but depending on how severe it will help but will not eliminate and likely you will need continual treatments.
Acupuncture cannot reverse the structural changes associated with spinal stenosis. Acupuncture can reduce the pain and inflammation in the area so that there are fewer symptoms.
I have several patients that are using acupuncture to push back the date of their surgery for their own reasons. Not everyone responds to acupuncture, but most people do and the risks
(bruising at the needle site) are so low that it's usually worth a try to see if it does help.
I hope you feel better soon!

Acupuncture can help manage the pain (lower back pain and leg pain), numbness, bowel and bladder conditions, which are the symptoms of Spinal Stenosis. In addition to acupuncture treatment, healthier lifestyle, diet and exercise will help manage the symptoms as well.
There are several questions I would like to ask you regarding the symptoms you are experiencing eg. what are the symptoms you are experiencing, how long have you had these symptoms, the pain level, how do you cope with the pain, what makes you feel better and what makes you feel worse, regarding to the pain, do you feel pain all the time or the pain comes and goes, is there any time in the day you feel the pain worsen, etc…. Once I have all my questions answered, I will have an idea of how the treatment plan for you would be. If you would like, you can come by the clinic for a consultation. I hope my answers are helpful.

Spinal stenosis has shown significant improvement with Acupoint Injection therapy by means of Ozone sterilization and homeopathic products.
Stenosis is a physical problem. Acupuncture can alleviate the pain symptoms presented to this problem.

It can definitely help alleviate the pain associated with it, though I am not sure if acupuncture can reverse the progression of stenosis.
Yes, it does work with the paraspinal muscles (muscles alongside the spine) to treat spinal stenosis.
Acupuncture can be an effective tool in managing pain from this condition and can help regulate body functions that may help improve your condition. Every case is unique, so find a licensed acupuncturist in your area to see if they can help. You may want to visit more than one to find one that you feel most comfortable working with.
Good luck

Spinal stenosis is a disease that can be treatment, but the chance of cure is rather embarrassing. Since the development of spinal stenosis is progressive and developmental,it is easy to cause the disease to become more and more serious if it is not actively treated.Once a spinal stenosis is found, aggressive treatment is required. Treated by acupuncture it can effectively relieve pain and promote circulation of the meridians.
Yes, acupuncture can usually help with spinal stenosis. Some studies even show acupuncture reducing the stenosis over time. For the best results, please make sure you're seeing someone licensed as an acupuncturist in your state. If you're outside CA, you can use the "Find a Practitioner" lookup at NCCAOM.org to get a list of local providers.
