Mr. Eric Miller DC's Expert Contributions
How do you know if you need a neck adjustment?
If you feel neck pain or stiffness during normal motion patterns or if you feel like there is an area of the neck that is tender to touch or feels "kinked", you probably need an adjustment. READ MORE
Is chiropractic treatment good for sciatica?
Absolutely. Probably the best treatment for Sciatica. The provider will need to determine where the sciatic nerve is being irritated and try to take the pressure off the nerve. READ MORE
What happens to your body after a chiropractic adjustment?
After a Chiropractic adjustment, you should feel better motion through restricted joints, less muscle tension in areas that were tight, and sometimes overall relaxation. READ MORE
Does lying on the floor help back pain?
Sometimes lying on a flat surface can ease lower back pain temporarily, but I would not recommend that as proper treatment. READ MORE
How do you unfreeze your shoulders?
Frozen shoulder happens when you lose normal motion patterns in the shoulder and the glenohumeral joint starts to become adhesion and/or scarring. First, it is very important to keep joints moving while healing to reduce scar tissue formation, otherwise known as the "fibrosis of repair". If you have been losing range of motion in the shoulder joint, it is very important to have the shoulder examined by a professional. After proper diagnosis, the physician or therapist should be able to give you instructions on stretches and exercises to restore normal movement patterns, if surgery is not necessary. READ MORE
How long is bed rest after scoliosis surgery?
No Bending, Lifting, or Twisting. The most basic of precautions for the patient during the recovery process will be “no BLTs.” These include: - *No bending.* The patient is allowed to bend at the knees and hips, but not at the back. - *No lifting.* Nothing should be lifted that is more than 8 pounds, which is about the weight of a gallon of milk. Someone else will need to handle tasks that require lifting more than that for now. - *No twisting.* Even simple tasks often involve twisting the spine, but that motion will have to be restricted during recovery. For example, to avoid twisting (and bending) the spine while getting in and out of bed, the patient will need to use the “log roll” technique This will be for first 2 weeks. Bed rest is only for the first 2-3 days. READ MORE
Can chiropractors help with inflammation?
Chiropractors can help ease inflammation in a variety of ways. We use physical therapy modalities, thermotherapy, joint mobilization, and supplementation to reduce inflammation. But most importantly long term, we help to correct normal joint biomechanics so the joint will have less stress and henceforth, less inflammation and breakdown. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well. READ MORE
What is the fastest way to recover from a slipped disc?
First, you have to get an accurate diagnosis. If your physician says it’s a slipped disc, that is inaccurate. Disc pathology is defined as bulged (the nucleus is still contained in the annulus), herniated (nucleus protruded out of annulus), sequestered (disc basically fragmented and the nucleus is herniated a lot), and degenerative (disc is thinned out and dehydrated). Bulges respond well to traction, decompression, and manipulation. Herniations may need an epidural in addition to other conservative treatments to handle the inflammation. Surgery may be necessary. Sequestration is a surgical situation. Degeneration responds well to movement of the motor unit, traction, and manipulation. See a good spinal specialist like a Chiropractor or Orthopedic determine an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment plan. Take care and be well. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor fix a torn shoulder?
A chiropractor can help you to recover from a tear in the rotator cuff muscles or labrum if surgery is not a necessity. A proper orthopedic examination including MRI can help determine a proper diagnosis and severity of the tear. If there is a complete tear, surgery is usually necessary. If the tear is minor, rehab can be very helpful while the tear heals. READ MORE
What is the fastest way to relieve a tension headache?
In my experience, most tension headaches originate from the suboccipital muscles at the base of your skull and where the trapezius muscles insert. Try stretching, heat, and massaging the trapezius and suboccipital muscles. If that doesn’t work, try ice at the base of the skull. Manipulation of the upper neck by a skilled healthcare provider such as a chiropractor is also very effective at reducing tension headaches. Ibuprofen or acetaminophen can also be very helpful if you can take that. Try to relax and calm the nervous system. I hope this info is helpful. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller- Orland Park, IL READ MORE
Where do you massage for a tension headache?
Start with stretching and massaging the trapezius muscles starting at the top of the upper back/shoulders and then into the neck up to the base of the skull where the trapezius muscles insert. May headaches originate at the base of the skull in the muscles called the suboccipital muscles. The greater occipital nerve comes from this area to supply the top of the head. Massage of this area and manipulation of the upper and lower neck is usually very helpful for headaches. Hope it helps. Take care and be well. READ MORE
Can a neck adjustment help vertigo?
Neck adjustments may be helpful for some types of vertigo. Make sure to do the vertigo exercises like Epleys and Semont maneuvers. READ MORE
When should I be concerned about calf pain?
You should be concerned about the origin of the pain. Was there an injury or excessive workout? That would relate more to the muscle. Did the pain in the calf come on slowly or after prolonged bed rest with swelling, redness, and tenderness to squeeze? There may be a blood clot. At your age, I would assume it is more likely just a strain and it should resolve with ice and stretching over the next 4 weeks. if not, consult a physician to get it properly diagnosed. READ MORE
Achilles question?
It sounds as if you strained the Achilles tendon a little. I would recommend stretching the calf muscles and Achilles tendon, contrasting ice and heat at this point, and start doing some toe raises to exercise the calf muscles. Be careful with the running and try to ice afterward. If it is still bothering you 6 weeks after the injury, then see a physician to get it checked out. Take care and good luck. Muscle between my thumb and index finger?
It does look really swollen. You should get an examination to determine if it is related to the soft tissues such as muscles, tendons, or ligaments or if there is a bony problem in that area. After the exam, an x-ray may be necessary to rule out any bone changes. I would think if the swelling was just some simple inflammation from sprain/strain, it would have gone down after 6 months. Better get it checked out! READ MORE
Can chiropractors help with allergies?
Some Chiropractors have success treating allergies. Treating allergies is often difficult after childhood. It usually involves an elimination diet and making sure your immune response is balanced well. It is a specialty service that many Chiropractors don’t provide so be sure to ask the doctor specifically if they treat allergies. Good luck! READ MORE

You may have strained an abdominal muscle or caused an abdominal hernia. If the bump is pretty big, it is probably a hernia. If it does, it's probably a hernia. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well. READ MORE
