You would need to refer to an audiologist to assess your child’s hearing concerns.

I would consult with an audiologist AND ENT (Ear Nose and Throat or Otolaryngologist) as soon as possible.

I would greatly encourage an appointment with an Audiologist to help find the reason and possible treatment for the hearing loss. Best of luck!

I would an encourage a consultation with early intervention specialists. These teams include speech therapists, occupational therapists, and more. Refer to your child’s doctor for more information!

Unfortunately, without knowing your daughter, I am unable to speak in absolutes. However, consulting with SLPs as well as your general practitioner and possibly a mental health professional would be a great start to an interdisciplinary team working towards helping your child! Best of luck!

First of all this sounds really difficult for both of you. Thank you for being able to reach out. Secondly, not knowing her entire medical history, I cannot talk on certainties. However, stress and anxiety play a large role in voice disorders. They really are very debilitating especially if you once had very active and social lives. As far as some exercises and strategies to use, consider the following:
1) I like to breathe along with the “Triangle Breathing” video on YouTube with my patients. It facilities deep breathing, and in my experience, aids in reducing anxiety.
2) Consider humming along with familiar music that brings good memories and makes her happy! Humming is great for kicking the vocal folds into gear in a natural format!
3) Continue use of any oral motor exercises that would help stretch and strengthen her lip/tongue/jaw muscles to reduce the tension. Consider consulting a physical therapist if she has reduced range of motion for her head and neck.

Consider getting in contact with early intervention in your state as well as the therapy resources provided at your local Pre-K/Kindergarten/Elementary schools. They will have SLPs that will be available to consult with. Therapy is a great way to aid in speech delays, as well as talking to Your child as you go about your daily tasks. It may seem silly, but describing what you’re doing to your child helps build their vocabulary! It also gives them a chance to respond as you would in normal
Conversation. Read books with the little one as well! But above all, consult with professionals in your area as they will be able to give you more than suggestions. Best of luck!
