“Can a chiropractor help with tingling fingers?”
I am a 37 year old female. I want to know if a chiropractor can help with tingling fingers?

Tingling in the fingers can be related to a pinched nerve in the neck. But can also be related to cubital or carpal tunnel syndrome. We would have to track how far the radiculopathy is traveling but majority of the time it is coming from the neck and can be resolved by chiropractic adjustments.
Hi there and thank you for your thoughtful question.
Tingling fingers is typically a symptom of nerve compression, somewhere along the spinal nerves that exit the cervical (neck) spine and descend the upper extremities, down to the fingertips.
Other medical issues that can potentially cause paresthesia (tingling fingers) are diabetes, inflammation, infection, vitamin deficiency and poor circulation.
Following an initial consultation and examination, cervical spine x-rays and possibly more advanced imaging such as a cervical spine MRI and neurodiagnostic studies of the upper extremities may be recommended.
These diagnostic tests objectively distinguish between disc failure (herniation) as the primary cause of the paresthesia and/or impingement further down the nerve..:aka peripheral neuropathy.
Examples of peripheral neuropathy include cubital and carpal tunnel syndrome, in the absence of diabetes or other systemic diseases.
Please forgive the detailed intro but it is necessary in order to answer your question.
Spinal manipulation can and does help to reduce the symptoms that you’re describing if the primary contributing factor is one or more bulging/herniated discs.
Other recommended chiropractic techniques include cervical traction, stretching exercises and having the patient purchase an orthopedic pillow for proper alignment while asleep.
Tingling caused by peripheral nerve entrapments are more difficult to treat via spinal manipulation but can still be considered as an adjunct to physical therapy, acupuncture or more invasive procedures, if necessary.

Tingling and/or numbness in the fingers are a common condition treated by Chiropractic Physicians. Obviously, the first goal is to determine the cause. Patients receive a thorough evaluation, including case history, exam & any appropriate diagnostic testing & imaging. Once we have a working diagnosis, we treat or refer as appropriate. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a very common cause of finger tingling. Your Doctor of Chiropractic can provide effective conservative care for this condition. Other causes, such as a “pinched nerve” are routinely treated in Chiropractic offices. However, there are medical conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy, systemic diseases, infections, etc., that are better addressed by your medical doctor.
Obviously it depends on what's causing the tingling fingers, but in most case, chiropractors can help with tingling fingers.

Hello and thank you for your question regarding tingling fingers.
Tingling fingers have many different causes. From simple muscle tightness and subluxation (malposition of a vertebrae) to disc and neurological issues. Most of the time, it is not serious and be can treated by Chiropractic. A few conditions are more serious and require additional testing. Your Chiropractor is trained to determine if Chiropractic care is appropriate or if a referral to a medical specialist is indicated.
I hope you find this helpful.

It does depend on the cause. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, ulnar neuropathy and cervical radiculopathy are the most common causes. Metabolic diseases, MS and autoimmune diseases are more rare. In most cases chiropractors, particularly chiropractic neurologists can take care of the common causes.
With your condition of tingling fingers that you specified, you can go to a chiropractic doctor and you need to get an evaluation to see where the source of the problem is coming from. Tingling can be a secondary cause of something else. But if you got a proper evaluation and work-up and it is coming from skeletal or muscle, then yes, chiropractic care would be a great treatment option.
A good chiropractor will take a good history and complete an examination to find out the cause of tingling fingers, whether it is a musculoskeletal problem, a nerve problem, a toxic metal problem, or a metabolic problem (or any other considerations based on your history and exam). Once the underlying issue is found, the appropriate recommendations can be made. I, myself have had success in the past treating numbness and tingling in hands, arms, legs and feet.
Chiropractic can help with tingling in the fingers. This condition is the result of misalignments of the bones of the spine that directly affect nerves going to the arm, hands and fingers. Correcting the misalignments will release pressure on the nerves, resulting in the relief of tingling in the fingers.
Absolutely yes, the nerves from your fingers come from your neck, there may also be a problem in your shoulder, elbow or wrist. A chiropractor is your best first person to evaluate this issue, especially one who works on extremities (arms and legs). Of course, there may be bigger problems causing the tingling that would require a second medical evaluation. It could also be a nutritional deficiency of vitamin B complex and/or deficiency EPA/DHA.

Chiropractors are experts in neuromusculoskeletal complaints and may be able to help with tingling in the fingers, but they must first perform a thorough examination to determine the causes of the tingling. If appropriate they will treat this type of complaint but may have to refer to another type of provider if found to be more systemic in nature.
