“Do you need surgery after a heart attack?”
My friend had a heart attack yesterday. Do you need surgery after a heart attack?

Most times, heart attacks are treated with minimally invasive heart stenting procedures and or medical management and in few severe cases where patient may have multiple blockages of heart arteries, patient may need cardiac bypass open heart surgery.
Most patients undergo cardiac catheterization after a heart attack. This is a procedure performed by interventional cardiologists. If the cardiologist feels that a stent can be placed to open up the artery, they will promptly do so. If you are found to have multi-vessel coronary artery disease, or the blockages are found to be too complex for a stent, your cardiologist will consult a cardiac surgeon to review your studies for possible coronary artery bypass surgery.
