It is recommended to floss at least once a day, most importantly before going to bed. But in reality, you can't floss too often so getting in the habit of flossing every time you brush is my best advice.
It's best to floss after you eat to remove the food from between the teeth, however, 1-2 times a day is normal.

Floss daily. I am glad you are starting early. Flossing is a great habit to have. Make sure you floss properly and remember the objective is to clean the surfaces between the teeth so move the floss up and down and NOT side to side like a saw.
Cleaning between the teeth with floss removes plaque and food impaction. Flossing helps in the prevention of gum disease, cavities and should be done at least twice per day. Brushing and flossing thoroughly will put you on the right track for healthy teeth and gums.

Once a day is perfect. As long as the bacteria in the dental plaque is disrupted every 24 hours you will be doing great! You can floss in the AM or the PM or even while you are watching television at night.
