  • What does a chiropractor do on the first visit?

Generally, a good Chiropractor will perform a history of your complaint, an examination of the areas and associated areas of your complaint and take X-rays if deemed medically necessary. After arriving at a diagnosis and treatment plan, treatment may begin with your consent. READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic help with depression?

It really depends on the cause of her depression. Some people become depressed due to chronic pain. Others may have imbalances in their body chemistry. While Chiropractic may not cure depression, it can help decrease pain and improve the bodies ability to function at a better level. The nervous system controls the function of other systems, so removing interference on the nervous system can help it function at a more optimum level. I have had patients relate that they feel much better in general. Give it a try. It can't hurt. READ MORE

  • How do you know if your back is out of alignment?

If you have pain in the spinal joints or asymmetric muscle development or general bad posture, chances are you have some spinal alignment issues. An X-ray is the best way to visualize the extent of the misalignments. READ MORE

  • How do you self align your hips?

Hello, First, you would have to know the distortion pattern causing the misalignment. Is there a leg length discrepancy? Is it just sacroiliac dysfunction or is there hip involvement as well? It is very difficult to self align. I have been practicing chiropractic for 30 years and I cannot treat myself. Stretching, exercise, using orthotics if necessary is helpful, but does not replace manipulation, if there are misalignment issues. Seek the treatment of a professional. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Should I see a chiropractor for leg pain?

If you are having pain radiating down your leg, you may have sciatica. A chiropractic physician is the right doctor to see for that condition. If it is not sciatica, the Chiropractor should be able to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and tell you the proper treatment plan. I hope you find this helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can playing too many sports cause rheumatic diseases?

The short answer is yes. Accumulative trauma from excessive stress on joints and tendons can cause inflammation and the pain that often accompanies it. Icing after activity is helpful, but resting the affected area so that it may heal is recommended. I hope this information helps. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • How do you know if you need a chiropractic adjustment?

Chiropractic is beneficial for most cases of neck pain. Usually, neck pain is musculoskeletal in origin. Chiropractors use many different types of treatment. Most are similar to physical therapy such as stretching, mobilizing and strengthening affected areas. However, manipulation is the most effective treatment in most cases of mechanical neck pain. If one or more of the joints in the neck is slightly misaligned or not moving in a normal motion pattern, pain can result. Manipulation is a great remedy. SHORT ANSWER: If you have neck pain, chiropractic treatment is very effective. READ MORE

  • What happens if you let a herniated disc go untreated?

It depends on the severity of the herniation and if it is pinching a nerve or not. If the herniation is small and not causing numbness and/or tingling or weakness in the extremity, it may heal without surgery, but it will take time. the typical heal time for disc herniations is about 1 year. If the disc herniation is large and extruded to the extent that the nerve is being impinged, doing nothing about it can result in permanent nerve damage. It is best to have a physician check the MRI and perform a good exam to determine the best course of action or no action. I hope this info is helpful. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can stretching alleviate your spinal pain?

Stretching can be very helpful in alleviating spinal pain, especially if the origin of pain is more muscular in nature. Manipulation and stretching is usually more effective than stretching alone. Try Chiropractic. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care help bursitis in the shoulder?

Yes. The physician must find the cause of the inflammation to the bursae. Often, there is a problem with impingement under the acromion of the scapulae. Stretching, mobilization, and manipulation of the shoulder and upper back should resolve your problem. I hope this information helps. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care help shoulder tendonitis?

Yes. Chiropractic can help with shoulder problems like tendonitis. First, an examination should be performed to determine the actual cause of the tendonitis. Is it impingement syndrome causing inflammation to drop onto the biceps tendon? Is there muscular imbalance causing abnormal stress to the tendon? Are there abnormal motion patterns of the three joints associated with the shoulder? The cause needs to be addressed to fix the problem, otherwise symptoms are just being masked to return again and become a chronic problem. Find a good chiropractor and/or physical therapist to get this fixed. Take care and be well. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Should I exercise with lower back pain?

It really depends on what is causing your back pain. If the pain is more musculature in origin, light exercise and stretching is often helpful. If there is a slight misalignment in a lumbar or lumbosacral joint, then you must be more careful and correction of the misalignment would be best before agitating it with exercise. I hope the information helps. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Sharp upper back pain?

This is a very common occurrence. You may have strained an upper back muscle during your workout or slept funny and produced a slight misalignment in the upper back causing the joint to be inflamed and the associated muscle to become tight. Try to stretch the affected muscles, ice the area and take some ibuprofen if you are okay with that to decrease some of the inflammation. Once the acute pain diminishes some, try to release the upper back vertebrae by either using a foam roller or place a soccer ball between your upper back and the back of a hard chair you are sitting in and push your back over the ball causing you upper back to extend over the ball. You may feel a few "cracks," that is good. It should calm down in a day or 2. If not, consult a local chiropractor and get some manipulation to ease the problem. I hope you feel better soon. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor harm your throat?

I have been providing cervical manipulation to patients for over 30 years and have never had a complaint of soreness in the throat. Sometimes, after an adjustment, the neck may be a little sore from the stretch to the muscles or joints but not in the throat. I hope you find this info helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric MIller READ MORE

  • How does scoliosis affect the body?

Scoliosis can have many different effects on the body depending on the number and severity of the curve(s). Scoliosis is defined as a spinal curvature that measures 15% or more. Cardiopulmonary complications may present in persons with curvatures greater than 45%. Often, surgery such as Harrington Rod placement or fusions are suggested if a patient is having Cardiac or Pulmonary complications. There are braces that can be helpful, but I have found that manipulation and physical therapy can be extremely helpful in less severe cases. With scoliotic curvature, there is increased stress in the spine at the apex of the curvatures and that may result in increased arthritic change and increased disc pathology at that area. Increased arthritic change and disc pathology can have an adverse effect on the nerves that exit between the effected vertebrae. At your younger age, it would be a great idea to seek the care of a good Chiropractic physician or an Orthopedic physician to recommend conservative care to help keep spinal flexibility and try to correct the spinal mechanics as much as possible. In general, Scoliosis will worsen 1-2 degrees each year unless something is done to correct it as much as possible. I hope this information helps you to make some good healthcare decisions. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can chiropractic care help with baby reflux?

Sometimes it can. Have your baby checked with a D.C. that practices with pediatric patients. A thorough examination should be performed to determine the cause and if manipulation would be beneficial or if the proper referral would be necessary. I hope this info is helpful. Take care and be well, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor correct rounded shoulders?

Absolutely. First, they would need to determine the cause of the rounded shoulders and address any biomechanical issues, then work in strengthening the upper back and stretching the pectoralis and anterior deltoid muscles. Restoring the normal cervical lordosis is also an essential part of restoring good posture. READ MORE

  • Can a chiropractor fix a forward head posture?

Absolutely. Manipulation of the neck and upper back can be beneficial, but you will need to stretch the muscles on the front of the body like the scalenes, pecs and anyerior delts while you strengthen muscles on the back such as trapezius, rhomboids and posterior deltoids. Good luck. Correcting that problem will save you degenerative changes in the neck in the future. Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Does seeing a chiropractor help TMJ?

Hello, Not all chiropractors treat TMJ, however, many do. There is a fascial connection between the upper neck and TMJ. Balancing the muscles associated with mastication and jaw tracking can be very helpful. Night guards can be helpful if you grind your teeth at night. I hope this info is helpful. Good luck, Dr. Eric Miller READ MORE

  • Should I see a chiropractor for neck pain?
