Sinus problems and headaches can be attributed to a subluxation, i.e., misalignment of the occipital condyles, the first or the second cervical vertebrae or a combination of the three. Nerve irritation caused by one or more of these articulations can lead to your problem. The chiropractor will simply realign those areas to relieve the nerve irritation.

Can chiropractors adjust fingers?
Yes. Most chiropractors can adjust every articulating joint in the body. Some even do cranial sutures.

No disrespect, but you don't "crack" someone's back. If you are successful in doing so, you probably broke something. For the untrained to try and adjust another person's back or neck, the probability of a positive outcome is very small and the possibility of a negative outcome such as permanent injury, a person becoming paralyzed or even death is very great. Sometimes there can be underlying conditions that can only be detected by examination and X-rays, which would contraindicate spinal manipulation. If you want to be a professional in doing this, I suggest looking at the Life University requirements on their website for obtaining a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. It's not easy, but you will be able to help people in ways that no other profession can accomplish. No drugs or surgery needed. It's a great feeling.

Tendonitis is caused by repetitive movement of the same muscle group. If it is the elbow which I am sure it is the first thing is to brace it with an elbow brace called Band-it. You can find it on amazon. Then the best way I have found to get rid of tendonitis is light stretching and weight lifting exercises to work the affected muscle/tendon including all of those adjacent in the same muscle group. Therapeutic laser treatment will also help to heal it in reduced time.

First, if you have been told bed rest and heating pads, don't do it. That will make it worse. Direct heat increases swelling and inflammation. Short periods of walking, ice packs, hot Epsom salt baths, and mild stretching exercises will help, but that should be under professional instructions. The quickest way I know is to find a chiropractor that offers spinal decompression therapy in conjunction with spinal mobilization treatments. It would also be helpful if your M.D. is willing to co-treat by providing you with anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxers. FYI, medication treats the symptoms, chiropractic treats the cause.

Can chiropractors help with hip arthritis?

Yes, they can. Especially if it is osteoarthritis which is caused by aging, lack of normal joint mobility, unequal weight bearing due to pelvic tilt in conjunction with an acquired short leg syndrome or an old injury. Chiropractic treatment helps to correct biomechanical instability and improve joint mobility therefore relieving pain and discomfort. At your age if there are no positive findings on X-ray studies such as a decrease in the joint spacing of the hip, sclerosis of the joint lining, i.e., increased calcium deposition, evidence of bone spur formation or a blood panel revealing a positive RA factor suggesting rheumatoid it is very doubtful that you have arthritis. Some doctors will use the term arthritis for lack of a more definitive diagnosis after they have depleted all modes of treatment without positive results. I have seen it many times over the years when the patient says they were diagnosed with arthritis and I look at the X-ray and say to myself, okay, where is it.

Yes, it is. The majority of chiropractors take X-rays on the first visit, but there are some that don't. They are done for three main reasons. The first two are protection for the patient and the doctor by being able to see what condition the spine is in before treatment. Third, it gives the doctor a valuable diagnostic tool to better determine the right treatment plan for the patient. Personally, I don't take films on patients under 12 unless I detect scoliosis or there has been an injury. All others I do. In your case, if the doctor says that he/she does not need X-rays, I would find one that requires them.

Yes. There are two types of short leg syndromes. The less common is an anatomical short leg in which is one is actually shorter by measurement. The most common is functional, i.e., acquired short leg syndrome and can be corrected without the use of heel lifts or special shoes. Acquired short leg syndrome's primary cause is pelvic and muscle imbalance. This is the realm of the chiropractor. I suggest seeing one.

In my opinion, moderate activity helps keep the knees flexible. There are three things that may help: One is a product called Orthogel, a topical ointment that offers temporary pain and swelling relief. It also has transdermal glucosamine which helps with cartilage and ligaments. Second, you should speak with your doctor about taking glucosamine with MSM supplements. This will take a few weeks before you will notice any difference. Third, go online to www.footlevelers.com and search for a participating doctor in your area. They make customized orthotics using a computer scanner and, in my opinion and experience, are second to none. I wear them myself.

One question is what were you doing when it popped? Were you running, participating in a sport, take a misstep such as off a curb or step in a hole and twisted the knee? There are three things that could have happened. Knee joint or knee cap dislocation, a tear in the cartilage (meniscus) or a strain and/or tear to a ligament. A doctor of chiropractic can treat it if it is a simple dislocation. He/she can also determine if there is something else going on and refer you to the appropriate specialist. In the meantime apply ice packs for 15 minutes several times a day to reduce swelling and inflammation. Also, soak in warm water with Epsom salt until the water cools. Do not apply a heating pad because this will induce swelling.

To me, it depends on the technique that is used. Manuel adjustments done by hand I find to be more effective than instrument adjusting. Sometimes an adjustment can be a little uncomfortable for a second or two depending on muscle tension and how fixated the area being adjusted is. The after effects have been described to me as euphoric, a feeling of increased energy, and immediate relaxation.

Adverse reactions to treatment happen in all professions, but to answer your question, it is extremely rare. I have been in practice for 38 years and have never experienced an incident in performing 500,000 plus chiropractic adjustments where a patient was injured. As long as the chiropractor follows procedure by thorough history, examination, X-rays, and treatment, there should be no worries.
