I am disappointed to hear you had a poor experience at the chiropractor! Yes, the doctor should have explained prior to the adjustment what would be done and the benefits you could expect to receive after an adjustment. The activator (little gun) is also how I would adjust the pubic bone, but I would explain and obtain consent for the adjustment regardless of male/female, and if you were uncomfortable with me (a male doctor) performing an adjustment I would refer you to my female physical therapist. While our main focus as chiropractors is pain relief, patient comfort should always be at the forefront of any adjustment!

Great question! While full return to exercise without restriction depends on the severity and location of the herniation, I encourage my patients to start with very short bouts of exercise (walking 5-10 minutes) and scaling up from there after a week or two of their initial injury.
