Most common keratoconjunctivides are adenoviral. Hence, you would catch this infection the same way you would catch the common cold from someone. I would hope most students in a classroom environment are practicing good personal hygiene and sensible precautions to prevent any viral transmissions.

There are several possibilities for this condition. At the top of the list is an eyelid infection. Please go to the nearest urgent care, ophthalmologist office, or emergency room today or tomorrow to be evaluated.

Hot compresses using a clean washcloth twice a day directly on the stye. Nice and hot, but don't burn yourself. If it doesn't go away in a week or two, or starts to make the whole eyelid swell up, see an ophthalmologist.

If you are experiencing eye pain and/or loss of vision, see an eye doctor. By now, you should know if it's causing trouble. If the eye feels and sees fine after this much time, it's probably fine. Any problems from cement would happen in the first 24-48 hours.

It depends on what the actual size of the microchip is. A one millimeter-sized object on the surface of the optic nerve ("optic nerve head") would be easily seen with a dilated slit lamp exam. A 0.1 mm diameter object might be mistaken for an anatomical defect. Any objects internal to the optic nerve head would not be detectable by an office exam and would require some type of imaging. An MRI of the optic nerve would probably detect a synthetic implant larger than 0.5mm. If the object incorporates any metal, a CT would be useful with the same size limitations. Hope that helps!

What you need is a diagnosis, which is simply identifying what this gray haze is. Once you know what it is, you will know if surgery is the correct treatment for it. If this is a new visual symptom, you need to see an eye doctor soon (within a week). Good luck.

You are not providing enough information to accurately determine what you should do next, but to answer your question, glasses cannot fix crossed eyes. If your eyes are newly crossing, you first need to get evaluated by an ophthalmologist and a neurologist within the next two weeks. If you are not seeing double, then it is unlikely the crossing is new. If you are seeing double, the double vision may change over several weeks, so that would be too soon to get prism glasses. Patients often patch one eye to alleviate the double vision temporarily, because it can be very uncomfortable. Often it will resolve over 3-6 months, but one of those doctors should be following your progress. If it remains double by month 6, and doctors have found no cause, then an optometrist can prescribe glasses with prism to compensate for the double vision when you wear them. If the crossing is big, it will be hard to make glasses, but also, an ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus (that's you!) may be able to surgically straighten your eye. If your crossing is old, they may decline to offer surgery, because old crossing in adults is often not stable after surgery, and recurs. Good luck!

Choices are too numerous to mention. Why do you want to know? If you or someone you know has an eyelid infection, maybe you or they should actually see an eye doctor, instead of second-guessing the situation by going online.

If you are certain of the diagnosis, adenoviral pinkeye is usually a self-limiting condition affecting both eyes. For extreme discomfort, allergy drops can sometimes make them feel better. I will sometimes prescribe topical NSAIDs. Decreases in vision should prompt you to see an ophthalmologist, who may prescribe mild topical steroid drops. You are contagious to others during the first week of your infection, so don't share things like computer keyboards and utensils. Disclaimer: I have no idea whether or not you have this condition, so if you're not sure, go see an ophthalmologist.

This is a touchy question. First, please check your definition of lazy eye. Amblyopia (best vision worse than 20/20), with or without strabismus (eyes not straight). Most ophthalmologists will point out that there are few, if any, high-quality peer-reviewed studies demonstrating any benefit of "vision therapy" or other "eye exercises", except in cases of convergence insufficiency. Many optometrists like it, though, and it's taught in schools of optometry. In the case of a 25 yo with only amblyopia +/- strasbismus, no one should be claiming that any therapy of any type would improve the amblyopia. It's also very unlikely that any exercise would improve strabismus. My advice: it wouldn't hurt to try, but it's your money, spend with care.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is, if your eye doctor said it will help you see, sure. If you want to change your eye color with cosmetic contacts, and your eye doctor is ok with prescribing it for that purpose, fine. If it won't help you see better, nor are you trying to change your eye color, then why bother?

Capsular damage and dropped nucleus are well known complications of surgery involving very dense cataract in any surgeons hands. With luck the retina surgeon can recover remaining nuclear material. You might want to discuss IOL issues with the retina surgeon, who should have the lens calculations from your cataract surgeon on hand in case they need to change the IOL at the time of vitrectomy. This is a very local neighborhood question. Call around to the eye doctors you might end up seeing and ask them. Online information will not provide specific answers, you need to talk to a live person who works where you will buy the glasses. National chains are pretty quick, sometimes even 1-2 hours after exam or upon receiving your prescription from somewhere else. Local eye shops often contract out to labs; in that case, 5-7 days. If the prescription is unusual or includes special features (like prism), it may take weeks. Kids' frames always take longer.

If both eyes are planned for cataract surgery, and are otherwise similar in health, most of the time it doesn't matter. That being said, if we are planning on monofocal implants, I like to operate on the non-dominant eye first. If one eye has been more nearsighted than the other, I will operate on that eye first. If we are planning on multifocal/EDOF implants, I may operate on the dominant or less-nearsighted eye first. If one eye has significant astigmatism compared to the other eye, I will operate on the non-astigmatism eye first. My reasons are multifactorial, and too difficult to explain here. Good luck!

The actual surgical time is typically 10-20 minutes. Difficult cataracts take longer.

Eyes shaking side to side is termed NYSTAGMUS. If you google the term, you will find all manner of scary things. If you were born with it, you've likely been tested for those things already; also, you probably have poor vision. If this is a new symptom, and you are a serious individual who is not flighty and emotional, not currently or formerly under the care of a mental health professional, and not currently or formerly taking psychoactive medications, then you should let your primary doctor know about this within the next week or two. If you are any of those things, feel free to see you doctor as well. A neurological examination should be performed, and someone may order an MRI of your brain.

"Red eye" can be many things. If it lasts longer than a week, give your local eye doctor a call. They can receive a photo of the eye in their email. They will also want to know if this is first time, how long you've had it, one eye or both eyes, do you wear contact lenses, any vision changes, any trauma, does it hurt or feel different, and other things.
