Mrs. Rebecca Kitzerow, LAC
Acupuncturist
Rebecca Kitzerow is an acupuncturist practicing in La Center, WA. Dr. Kitzerow evaluates and treats patients based on the concepts of oriental medicine. Acupuncturists complete their evaluations by getting a patient history and looking at and touching the body. Then, they place very fine acupuncture needles into specific points on the body. Stimulating these points and nerves is how Dr. Kitzerow treats the patients condition. Many of the bodys systems respond to acupuncture, and it can treat physical pain as well as emotional stress.

That is a trickier one. I will say yes - Acupuncture is incredibly effective to help reduce pain, increase mobility, increase circulation, and can support kidney help. By helping you manage the discomfort, acupuncture can make passing a kidney stone easier. There are Chinese herbs in particular that can definitely help you dissolve and pass the stone, but acupuncture alone ... I would say that it would be a case by case basis for the acupuncture to actually help you pass it. It can definitely make the passing more comfortable, however.

"How" is a complex question. From a TCM perspective, we stop pain by removing stagnation of the Qi and rebalancing the body's vital life energy. By doing this, balancing the Qi, the physical body - which the Qi runs through - follows suit and the pain is relieved. From a western standpoint, we know that acupuncture can change MU opiate receptors in the brain to change how we feel or perceive pain, we know it can improve circulation and decrease inflammation and cause endorphin release as well, but there is no single western answer for "how," only the traditional energetic explanation. I like to say a little bit of science and a little bit of magic.
